Aluminé is a town with approximately 3,642 inhabitants in the urban area, and 2,000 in the rural area. Its economy depends on ovine and bovine livestock breeding, forest exploitation and tourism, since it is the main service centre in the area of Pehuenia.
Its history is relatively new, given that 1915 is officially recognized as the year when colonists settled in the area, and their origin goes back approximately to the 1880’s.
Ever since those times, this town and its surroundings receive visitors who wish to be in contact with nature and enjoy different adventures.
On foot, on horseback, by car or by boat you can discover different landscapes on your way to and from Aluminé, following the circuits that take you to Ruca Choroi, Carri Lil, Lonco Luan, Villa Pehuenia, La Angostura, Moquehue, Ñorquinco, Quillén, Pulmarí, and Lago Hui Hui, among others. Besides, you can take a tour around the neighbour country of Chile, through Icalma international border crossing.
The wisdom of nature
It is the main urban centre in the area of Pehuenia, where there is abundant native vegetation surrounded by mountains covered with ñires, coique canes, oaks and pehuenes, and by bright blue rivers, cascades and lakes, which constitute a unique place where nature expressed herself, showing all its magnificence.
This area is called “Pehuenia” due to the many forests of araucaria or Pehuenes it holds, whose fruit is the “piñón” (the base of the Mapuche food pyramid).
This is also an important bird watching area, where you can see flamingos, black-necked swans, and different species of ducks. It is possible to practise some big-game hunting as well, and go fishing, by spinning, fly fishing or trolling methods.
Sports for ever
Aluminé is one of the best fly fishing sites.
There are different watercourses where sport fishing lovers can catch brown trout, rainbow trout, fontinalis trout and perches. Besides, you can practice water sports, like canoeing and rafting (on Aluminé River rapids). You can also do some adventure tourism, practising activities like trekking, kayaking, and horseback riding
On every step, nature invites you to discover this paradise on earth.
To enjoy the snow
Another interesting attraction is the Batea Mahuida Hill (called “batea” due to the depression on is summit, and “mahuida” because it is a mountain), situated approximately 40.5 miles from Aluminé, where you can enjoy a snow park. This volcano has a lagoon on its summit; it is said to have exchanged fire for water to let the mapuche Puel community make history there.
